“Things I’d Tell My Younger Self (and Still Don’t Always Listen To)”

There are things I’d tell my younger self if I could. And a few I still forget, even after reminding myself a hundred times.
Like, it’s okay to laugh at your own quirks. It’s okay that I’m still convinced worms are nature’s prank on humanity.
I can do without them — Scoleciphobia is a real thing.

I can’t watch anyone put in contact lenses without my eyes watering in sympathy.

But here’s the thing — the older I get, the more I realize it still matters.
The advice I’d give my younger self never really expires.
These little imperfections are part of my light.

They’re what make me me.
They’re the moments that make my friends laugh, my coworkers shake their heads, and my heart soften toward the woman I’ve grown into.

If I could sit my younger self down, I’d pick a spot with sunshine, blue skies, and a perfectly humidity-free breeze. Then I’d tell her a few things.

Things I’d tell my younger self about love, laughter, and self-acceptance.

So here’s to the quirks, the no-poker-faces, the people who can’t handle worms but secretly accept they, too, have a purpose —
even if it’s mostly to keep us humble and slightly creeped out.
