Simple Days, Simple Ways

You’re Never Too Old to Grow Up — Finding Humor in Everyday Adulting

Somewhere between paying bills and getting excited about watching old episodes of Girlfriends and Bob’s Burgers, I realized something: maybe growing up isn’t always about being serious. Its about balance, the kind that lets you laugh out loud at yourself, adjust, and find humor in the middle of everyday adult life.

Growing up doesn’t mean you stop dancing in the kitchen. You still tease your siblings and watch cartoons “just to relax.” It just means you finally know when to take the trash out before it starts to smell. Progress, right?

Maybe we never really arrive at adulthood — we just get better at pretending we know what we’re doing (with cuter pajamas, better skincare, and a bit of humor about adult life).

The Myth of Having It All Together

As a kid, I thought grown-ups just knew things. Like how to fold fitted sheets, fix leaky faucets, or make those big life decisions without needing snacks first. Turns out, the funny side of adulting is realizing no one actually has the answers — sometimes, we fake it and try to make it work.

Most days, I feel like a professional juggler — except the balls are bills, laundry, and the mysterious art of remembering passwords. But here’s the thing: no one really has it all together. We’re all just learning how to keep it all together and messy parts go unnoticed.

Lessons from the School of Everyday Life

To balance it all out, I’ve come up with a few tips of survival for myself because sometimes, being “grown” just means letting the small stuff stay small.

  • Always keep snacks handy. Emotional or otherwise.
  • A nap can fix at least 60% of your attitude.
  • You don’t have to have the last word to win or have peace.
  • And sometimes, being “grown” just means letting the small stuff stay small.

Some lessons come with time, others come from running out of gas and swearing you’ll never
let the tank drop below half again (until next week). I’m just trying my best not to get caught on empty.
