I know I’ve talked about migraines quite a bit this year. The truth is, I’ve dealt with them more this year than I have in a very long time, and along the way, I’ve learned a few things I wish I’d known sooner. One of those things started with something as simple as yawning. Actually, excessive yawning. really excessive yawning. I’m not talking about a yawn or two because you’re tired. I’m talking about yawning over and over again for no apparent reason. I yawn so much in meetings sometimes my coworkers actually count them and laugh. It became one of those little office things everybody noticed. Turns out, sometimes…

Apparently My Body Has Been Sending Memos, I Just Wasn’t Reading Them
Apparently, My Body Has Been Sending Memos. I Just Wasn’t Reading Them. This week’s weather is looking like one of those weeks. Warm. Rain. Muggy. Pressure changes. More warm. More rain. For those of us whose heads like to participate in the weather forecast, you already know what I’m talking about. But lately I’ve been paying more attention to what happens before a migraine — the prodrome phase — and apparently my body has been dropping hints that I have been completely ignoring. The Signs I Never Connected To Migraines The yawning, I yawn. A LOT. Not all the time. But when it starts, apparently I put on a performance.…

June: Dragonflies and Open Doors — Reflections on Life Transitions
I’ve been thinking about how much can change in a single year. In many ways, this story began in June. Last June, my mom passed away. In the days that followed, I had an unexpected encounter with a dragonfly—one that stopped me in my tracks and eventually inspired the name Dragonflies & Honey. If you’ve been here from the beginning, you may remember that story. Looking back now, I realize it marked the beginning of a season I couldn’t yet see. Around that same time, a dear friend lost her mother too. Standing At New Doorways This June looks very different. A niece and nephew are both graduating from sixth…

What Grew From A Promise| Dragonflies & Honey
The wonderful thing about a new day is that it brings new light. What felt heavy yesterday doesn’t always feel as heavy today, and I’m grateful for that. After my mom passed, a dragonfly appeared at a time when I needed one. I can’t explain it, but it stayed with me. I spent my time working quietly behind the scenes on something deeply personal—something I had promised my mother I would do. In our last conversation, she told me to keep my promise. To focus on me. Then she thanked me for taking care of her. I knew what she was saying. So I got to work. Out of that…

The Kind of Place I’ve Always Been Drawn To
I’ve been sewing, stitching, embroidering, crocheting, and making things by hand since I was around seven years old. When I see something I like, my first thought is usually, “I can probably make that,” and I often do just that. Needlecrafts have always been my thing, but one stands out more than the rest because I find it the most calming. That’s probably a big reason why I still love cross stitching as an adult. As a kid, I had two career goals: cashier or fashion designer/costumer. Cash registers fascinated me because they were huge, full of buttons, and made all kinds of noise. On the completely opposite end of…

Soup, Salads & a Simple Saturday
This was my Saturday. I woke up this morning craving soup because I am a full-blown soup fiend… especially chicken soup. So I made a quick chicken and lentil soup with fresh roasted chicken, red lentils, onions, celery, carrots, and even a tiny bit of corn. Honestly, a lot of my soups end up becoming a “what’s left in the refrigerator” situation anyway, and somehow that always makes the broth better. I had too much chicken, so I also made a quick little chicken salad. Then I decided I wanted salmon salad too, so I made a small batch of that as well. The good part is both salads use…
